In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that the largest public school district in Washington state is offering its students referrals for sex change surgeries and hormone therapy without parental consent. Can you believe it? Seattle’s public schools are actually providing material to their middle and high schoolers that promotes and facilitates these life-altering procedures! This disturbing information was uncovered by Parents Defending Education (PDE), who obtained documents highlighting this appalling practice.

According to the documents, these health centers are touting their “no cost comprehensive, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming care” conveniently located right at the schools. They offer a wide range of services, including gender-affirming medications and hormone therapy for adolescents, as well as referrals for gender-affirming surgeries. Can you imagine? These kids can simply walk down the hall, schedule an appointment, and undergo irreversible procedures without their parents even knowing!

I don’t know about you, but this is outrageous to me. Shouldn’t parents have a say in their child’s medical decisions? It seems like the school district and these health centers think they know what’s best for these kids, without any consideration for the rights and responsibilities of parents. It’s clear that they are pushing an agenda, prioritizing the desires of a few over the well-being and autonomy of the majority.
But wait, there’s more. Not only are these centers providing these services, but their staff members are also instructed not to disclose a student’s transgender or gender identity to others, unless legally required or authorized by the student. And when it comes to contacting parents or guardians, they are advised to avoid using gender pronouns if it is unclear whether the student asserts the same gender identity at home. It’s like they want to erase the role of parents and keep them in the dark about their own children’s lives!
Unfortunately, this is all legal under the Adolescent Behavioral Health Care Access Act passed in 2019. This law gives young people aged 13-17 the power to seek medical help for mental illness and substance use disorders without the consent or knowledge of their parents or guardians. Can you believe that? A 13-year-old can make decisions about their body and health without any input from their parents! This is a clear overreach of government power and a violation of parental rights.
It’s important to note that transgender-affirming care has its fair share of criticism. Multiple studies have shown that the majority of gender-dysphoric children eventually grow out of their dysphoria and become comfortable with their bodies after puberty, especially if there is no hormonal or surgical intervention. Additionally, those who undergo sex-reassignment surgery have alarmingly high rates of suicide, almost 19 times higher than the general population. Clearly, this is not a solution that benefits these young individuals in the long run.
It’s time for parents to stand up and demand their rights to be respected. Parents should have the final say in their child’s medical decisions, especially ones as life-altering as sex change surgeries and hormone therapy. We cannot allow schools and government agencies to undermine parental authority and push their own agenda. The well-being and future of our children are at stake, and we must protect them from these harmful practices disguised as “gender-affirming care.”
