Bodycam Footage Shows Near Miss for Trump at Butler Rally

In a shocking revelation, new bodycam footage has surfaced from Butler, Pennsylvania, depicting a close call that could have gone haywire for former President Donald Trump. In the footage, released by local police, officers are seen attempting to apprehend 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who clearly couldn’t resist the urge to bring a little mayhem to Trump’s rally on July 13. Now that the video is out, it’s clear that while Trump dodged a bullet—literally—his would-be assassin got a little too comfortable on a rooftop.

The video depicts a chaotic scene as officers scramble to get Crooks under control just seconds before he fired his weapon. It’s a classic case of “too little, too late,” showcasing how law enforcement can sometimes find themselves one step behind. One officer’s frustrations were aired as he lamented about how close he was to disaster. It’s amusing yet alarming to see how officers learned about chaos in real-time, recognizing how the young assailant was a tad bit more agile on the roof than they anticipated.

In one heroic yet comical maneuver, officers collaborated to hoist one of their own onto the rooftop where Crooks had found his perch. It turns out scaling twelve feet is not nearly as easy as it looks in the movies. The officer on the roof quickly found himself facing a weapon-wielding Crooks. Talk about an awkward tumble! After a moment of terror, the officer lost grip and made an unexpected descent, spraining his ankle in a scene that could have come straight from a slapstick comedy.

Instead of rescuing the day, the officers found themselves exchanging expletive-laden dialogue, highlighting the confusion and high stakes of the moment. The nearly comedic nature of their banter stands in stark contrast to the seriousness of the situation, revealing how even seasoned public servants can find themselves flailing in the face of danger. Calls of distress floated through the air as officers realized that sometimes the action movie heroes aren’t quite as coordinated as they appear.

Despite the pandemonium, Trump managed to escape unharmed, walking off the stage with just a minor graze to the ear, a small price to pay for such a close call. This near-assassination attempt not only emphasizes that anti-Trump sentiment can push some to the brink but also serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement during politically charged events. While Trump’s supporters can breathe easy knowing he came out of this incident relatively unscathed, the incident further fuels discussions on the vital importance of security at public events.

As the dust settles, it’s evident that while the officers on the ground may have had a rough start, they are at least providing ample material for late-night comedy—in a roundabout way. One can only hope they’ll review their command strategy before the next rally, lest they find themselves scaling rooftops again in sheer pandemonium.
