In a stunning revelation during Wednesday’s field hearing, Chief of the Border Patrol Raul Ortiz admitted that the U.S. does not have operational control of the border. Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green, a Republican from Tennessee, asked Ortiz if the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had operational control of the entire border, and Ortiz responded with a simple ‘no sir.’ Green then showed a video of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testifying to Congress that the U.S. does have operational control, leaving Ortiz silent when asked if Mayorkas was lying.

This is just one more example of the Biden administration’s refusal to take responsibility for the crisis at our southern border. Democrats on the committee refused to attend the hearing, calling it a “political stunt.” But what’s more of a political stunt than blatantly ignoring the national emergency happening right now at our border? The Democrats don’t want to face the truth about the situation because it would expose their failed policies and their complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of American citizens.

Despite the chaos that’s unfolding and the massive influx of illegal immigrants, the DHS continues to claim that everything is under control. Meanwhile, cartels and smugglers are wreaking havoc on our border while the Biden administration turns a blind eye. The truth is, the Biden administration has inherited a mess of their own making, with their dismantled immigration system and weak border policies. They don’t seem to care about the safety of Americans and have no intention of fixing the problem.
It’s no surprise that Democrats are only interested in bipartisanship when it serves their own interests. When it comes to solving the crisis at our border, they want to turn a blind eye and refuse to work with Republicans. As Green pointed out, it’s like they’re AWOL from their duty to serve and protect American citizens. The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for their cowardice and failure to address this critical issue. It’s time for our leaders to put politics aside and come up with real solutions to secure our southern border.
