In an opinion piece, Gregory Wallance claimed that the decision by Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, to indict Donald Trump for mishandling classified information may have been a legal miracle. He argued that the case should not have been prosecuted until after the presidential election next year.
Since Trump's lawyers believe that holding the trial at the same time as an election is very likely to affect the outcome, they have asked for a delay. However, the special counsel for the case, Jack Smith, is pushing for the trial to start on December 11.

Wallance noted that Bragg's decision to prosecute Trump for violating the confidentiality agreement with porn star Stormy Daniels may have improved the chances of a delay in the trial. Trump's lawyers also argued that they would not be able to prepare adequately for the trial due to certain factors, such as the complexity of the case.
Wallance suggested that Trump's trial should be held in April or March of 2024, which would give him more time to prepare. However, this would clash with Bragg's upcoming trial for Stormy Daniels, which is scheduled to begin on March 25.
Should the March 25 trial go ahead, it may prompt the judge to refrain from seeking a compromise, which could lead to the postponement of the trial until after the November 8 election. It has been speculated that Trump could pardon himself in order to avoid facing trial if he were to win again. Wallance also noted that setting a trial schedule could affect the outcome of the case.
