California Assembly Passes Symbolic Apology Bill Amid Budget Woes

After Thursday’s events, history has been made in America. In California, lawmakers made a move, but it doesn’t actually end racism.

The California Assembly supported a bill that takes some responsibility for “all of the harms and atrocities committed by the state,” according to the Daily Mail. Many Democrats in the Assembly spoke passionately about how meaningful they believed the apology was.

Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, who authored the bill, emphasized the importance of the apology letter. He also talked about fulfilling his ancestors’ dreams of being part of the American dream.

California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas acknowledged the government’s role in oppressing African Americans. He stated that California’s history is marred by the mistreatment of black individuals, and there is still a need for healing.

The bill, known as Assembly Bill 3089, is moving to the State Senate. However, despite the strong messages of the importance of the apology, actual plans for radical social justice in California are not closer to becoming a reality.

Reparation bills that would provide property tax and cash payouts to descendants of slaves have been put on hold because of major budget deficits in the state.

State Sen. Anna Caballero, chair of the California Senate Appropriations Committee, emphasized the difficulty of the legislative and budget processes in the upcoming years.

It is unfortunate that California, once a shining example of the American dream, is now facing financial challenges due to Democratic lawmakers.

Although the apology letter seems to be a central issue for some Democratic lawmakers, it is important to note that success in America has been attainable for anyone willing to work hard and smart, without the need for an apology. Success has been within reach for those who strive for it, despite past restrictions.

Nevertheless, it is vital for everyone to be aware that the American dream is accessible to those who are determined and work hard, without an apology.
