Popular AI chatbot ChatGPT has hit a major glitch, leaving users scratching their heads as it spews out nonsensical and downright disturbing responses. The Independent reports that this artificial intelligence marvel, brought to you by OpenAI, went haywire Tuesday night and into Wednesday, bombarding users with jumbled nonsense in place of its usual coherent banter.
In one hair-raising example, a user simply trying to chat about jazz music and vinyl records found themselves bombarded with an unsettling barrage of “Happy listening!” and a whole lot of gibberish. Meanwhile, simple questions about computers and cooking recipes were met with long strings of nonsensical text that sounded like something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.

But it gets scarier. Some users reported feeling as though ChatGPT was actually in the room with them, with one poor soul seeking coding help receiving a cryptic message that seemed to imply just that. Imagine getting a chilling response from an AI in the dead of night – no thanks!
Adding to the creep factor, ChatGPT started spouting random Spanish words and inventing phrases that sounded like a bot’s attempt at speaking in tongues. OpenAI, ChatGPT’s creator, admitted to the issues but remained mum on the exact cause of this AI meltdown. Some tech gurus suggested that perhaps the AI’s “temperature” setting was cranked up too high, which controls its creativity levels. But OpenAI denied making any changes, leaving us all in the dark.
