CNN’s senior legal analyst, Ellie Honig, surprised many when she actually agreed with a point made by former President Donald Trump. The gag order that prevented discussion about the court staff and attorneys involved in Trump’s bank fraud trial has been lifted by a New York appeals court. Justice Arthur F. Engoron, who is overseeing the trial, had initially implemented the gag order after Trump made some comments.
It’s refreshing to see someone on CNN side with Trump for once. Honig even acknowledged Trump’s right to speak negatively about the charges against him and criticize the judge and prosecutor. Finally, some fairness in the media!
But Honig’s remarks didn’t stop there. She also mentioned the 14th Amendment and how it has been misused in attempts to bar Trump from office. For someone on CNN to admit this is a big deal. Honig pointed out that there is no clear procedure for using the 14th Amendment to disqualify someone, and recent legal efforts have failed. It’s about time someone acknowledged this!

Not only that, but a judge in Michigan recently dismissed a challenge to disqualify Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot using the 14th Amendment. This is a significant win for Trump and a blow to those who have been trying to use the amendment against him. The same lawsuit was also dismissed in Minnesota, further highlighting the lack of legal grounds for disqualifying Trump.
The fact that there is still ambiguity around the 14th Amendment after all these years shows just how flawed it is. Honig summed it up perfectly when he said, “Neither the Constitution nor Congress, in the one hundred fifty years since that amendment was passed, has clarified how this works.” It’s time to stop using this outdated provision to go after Trump.
All in all, it’s clear that the tide is turning in Trump’s favor. With the gag order lifted and legal challenges being dismissed, he is well on his way to making a comeback. And with news outlets like CNN starting to see the light, it’s only a matter of time before Trump reclaims the presidency.
