Senator Ted Cruz is fighting back against the Democrats who keep protecting criminals over cops. The Texas Republican just introduced a new bill called the CLEAN D.C. Act to fix the mess that liberal politicians made in our nation’s capital.
Back in 2022, the Washington D.C. Council passed a terrible law that made it harder for police to do their jobs. This so-called reform act banned proven police tactics and stripped away protections that kept our brave officers safe. Democrats called it police reform, but it was really just another attack on law and order.
The results have been a disaster for regular Americans trying to live safely in D.C. Violent crime has exploded across the city because criminals know the police have been handcuffed by liberal politicians. Officers are leaving the force in record numbers because they cannot properly protect themselves or the public.
Congress tried to stop this madness in 2023 with bipartisan support from both parties. But Joe Biden stepped in and vetoed the bill, proving once again that Democrats care more about criminals than victims. His party backed him up and kept these dangerous policies in place.
Cruz is not giving up the fight for public safety. His new bill would completely reverse the 2022 law and give police back the tools they need to catch bad guys. Six other Republican senators have joined him in this important effort to restore order.
The senator made it clear that Democrats own this crisis completely. Their ideological decisions to attack police have made Washington D.C. a more dangerous place for everyone who lives and works there. These are not accidents but deliberate choices to side with criminals.
Law enforcement leaders have been sounding the alarm about these harmful policies for years. They warned that restricting police would hurt officer morale, make it harder to hire good cops, and embolden criminals to commit more crimes. The Democrats ignored these warnings and pushed ahead anyway.
Now hardworking Americans are paying the price for the left’s war on police. It is time for Congress to pass the CLEAN D.C. Act and show criminals that law and order still matters in America.
