Cuomo Slams Left’s Trump Indictment Obsession: Third-World Tactic Fail?

The left-leaning media’s eager anticipation of President Trump’s prosecution for mishandling classified information did not pan out as they had hoped. The prerecorded program, The View, missed the opportunity to comment on the news of the indictment in real time. Meanwhile, Chris Cuomo of NewsNation provided some thought-provoking perspectives on the topic. The former CNN anchor invited independent reporter Matt Taibbi to his program, and the two jointly expressed skepticism about the accusations and offered rather sharp critiques about the issue, even equating the indictment to something one might witness in an undeveloped nation.

Cuomo wondered if the investigators were knowingly or unknowingly aiding President Trump by consistently falling short in their efforts to expose him. Taibbi, while stating his disapproval of Trump, posited that all charges against the former president ought to withstand a basic test, which in his view, Trump’s accusations failed to do. He went further to say that the overall appearance of the situation was poor and reminiscent of what one might expect in a partially repressed society.

Taibbi reminded the audience that the Espionage Act was leveraged by Barack Obama during his presidency, setting an unprecedented rate of using the Espionage Act against whistleblowers, even extending to journalists. Hence, to the average person, the charges against Trump seemed like a mere formality.

However, unlike the Stormy Daniels indictment, the accusations against Trump concerning classified information carried more substance. An audio recording of Trump, which could potentially aid the DOJ’s argument, was in possession. Moreover, documents were discovered in a bathroom, raising concerns about unauthorized individuals potentially accessing classified maps of military missions, a more grave infraction than having an extramarital affair.

Reactions across right-leaning media varied. While some commentators like Charles Cooke of National Review regarded the indictment as devastating, others like Hugh Hewitt downplayed its significance. However, left-leaning media unanimously agreed on their stance, with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow proposing that President Trump should withdraw from the race, and the DOJ would then dismiss the charges. Ultimately, the left’s goal was to pressure President Trump to drop out of the race, an outcome he is unlikely to comply with, a fact the left should have acknowledged by now.
