DA Fights Trump’s Judge Swap in Hush Money Scandal

District Attorney Alvin Bragg has filed a response against former President Donald Trump’s legal team, which is trying to change the judge in the hush money case. Bragg has argued that the judge’s participation in plea discussions involving Allen Weisselberg, the former CFO of Trump Organization, was completely fair and unbiased. However, Trump’s legal team is trying to remove the judge from the case and move it to federal court as they believe that the judge has a bias against Trump.

Trump’s legal team also argued that the case should be tried in federal court as he was the President when the alleged crimes occurred and Merchan, the current judge, had made political contributions in the 2020 presidential election and urged Weisselberg to be a government witness. Bragg’s office has alleged that Trump has a history of baselessly accusing judges around the country of bias and Trump’s recusal motion is an apparent effort to select his own judge.

Trump has multiple legal battles to fight, including a case involving 34 counts over allegations of keeping classified documents at his Florida home. This case was found last year during an FBI raid, and Trump could face more severe consequences in this case. Interestingly, this case has unfolded while President Joe Biden and his son are facing a House investigation over an alleged bribery scandal.

The former President’s legal battles are likely to continue, and his efforts to return to the White House may overlap with the GOP primaries early next year. It is believed that Trump’s confidence in his legal arguments will get him off the hook in the hush money case as he prepares to make a comeback.
