In a newsworthy display of poor sportsmanship, former U.S. Rep. Mondaire Jones, an AOC-endorsed Democrat congressional candidate, took a dig at Kevin McCarthy, the now-ousted House Speaker. Jones complained about McCarthy’s meeting with Orthodox Jewish leaders, calling it a “waste of everyone’s time.” Talk about sore loser!
Dem Candidate Goes 'Antisemitic' to Own Kevin McCarthy

McCarthy had the audacity to meet with Hasidic Jews in New York’s Hudson Valley, a region known for its large Jewish population. He even participated in the Sukkot holiday, a religious event symbolizing God’s protection of the Jewish people. But apparently, that wasn’t impressive enough for Jones, who is challenging New York’s incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican supported by the Jewish community.
McCarthy’s efforts to court the Jewish vote in Rockland County have been met with resistance from Jones and his supporters. They seem to forget that meeting with religious leaders is an important part of understanding a community’s needs. But hey, why bother with understanding when you can just insult people instead?
Not surprisingly, Jones received a wave of backlash for his “antisemitic” remark. Superintendant Joel M. Petlin called Jones out for insulting the very people he wants to represent. Even U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a Democrat representing a neighboring district, expressed concern over the “antisemitic rhetoric” displayed by Jones. It seems that Jones’ attempt to celebrate McCarthy’s defeat has backfired spectacularly.
Jones, realizing the damage he caused, issued a press statement claiming that he meant to criticize McCarthy for “wasting the time of Hasidic leaders.” Sure, Jones, we totally believe you. It’s amazing how easily politicians can backtrack when they face public outrage. But let’s not forget that actions speak louder than words, and Jones’ disrespectful comments show a lack of respect for the Jewish community.
Mike Lawler, the Republican incumbent, hit the nail on the head when he called out Jones for being associated with the far-left Squad and their anti-Semitic members. It’s no surprise that someone like Jones, endorsed by AOC herself, would make such offensive remarks. When you run with the wrong crowd, their toxicity rubs off on you.
Jones may be favored to win his party’s nomination, but his recent outburst has certainly raised questions about his character and suitability for office. It’s clear that he needs to learn a lesson in respect and humility. The people of New York’s 17th congressional district deserve a representative who can rise above petty insults and actually deliver for the community.
