The latest fight over Department of Homeland Security funding has exposed the Democrats’ true aim: to gut the agency that enforces our laws. What some on the left call “reform” is increasingly being framed as an effort to neuter or even abolish ICE, and conservatives — rightly — are pushing back hard against demands that would strip Americans of basic border security.
Washington’s standstill has real consequences for hardworking Americans who depend on safe, functioning airports and secure communities. The funding impasse dragged into late-night negotiations, and when Congress failed to act the President moved to sign an order to keep Transportation Security Administration employees paid — a necessary step to prevent chaos while lawmakers bicker.
Despite frantic media narratives, Republicans in the House have been clear: they will not cave to a partisan push that ties routine homeland security to political demands that would hobble immigration enforcement. Speaker Johnson’s move to put a short-term DHS plan on the floor instead of the Senate bill shows GOP determination to keep ICE and Border Patrol funded unless Democrats abandon their maximalist demands.
Let’s be straight about the facts: ICE continues to operate, and much of its authority and funding is embedded in existing law — Democrats’ theatrics won’t suddenly restore order at the border if they strip enforcement of needed resources. Politicians who posture about “restricting ICE” should remember that dismantling enforcement costs American lives and neighborhoods.
Conservative Americans should not be shamed into surrendering our security because a few in the media and on the left want headlines. As ICE agents are even being called in to assist TSA during staffing crises, the country can see who actually protects everyday citizens and who plays politics with public safety. The choice is simple: back the men and women who enforce the law, or reward a dangerous experiment in open-border policy.
Patriots know where our priorities must lie — with secure borders, accountable law enforcement, and an America where the rule of law is enforced, not undermined. The GOP must hold the line, keep ICE operational, and force Democrats to show whether they stand with our communities or with the radicals who want to dismantle the institutions that keep us safe.
