Democrats’ Border Hypocrisy Exposed: Political Theater Unraveled

Bob Brooks was right to call out the Democrats’ sudden outrage over federal border enforcement as performative. What we watched on American Agenda was not a principled pivot but political theater — a desperate attempt to rewrite their own record the moment it became electorally convenient. The receipts are out there for anyone willing to follow the paper trail instead of the left’s messaging machine.

Let’s be blunt: Democrats helped build the enforcement regime they now pretend to despise. The 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act dramatically toughened removal procedures, expanded detention, and prioritized deportations — and it passed as part of bipartisan legislation signed into law during a Democratic administration. That history undercuts the moral high ground now claimed by politicians who cheered tougher measures when they were useful and now denounce them when they aren’t.

If anyone doubts how serious Democrats once were about enforcement, look at recent administrations. Barack Obama’s tenure saw deportation numbers spike to modern records, earning him the unflattering nickname “deporter in chief” even among immigrant-advocacy leaders. The lesson for conservatives is clear: rhetoric shifts, but bureaucratic reality and the law’s machinery do not.

And yet, in the last decade a vocal faction of the left marched from enforcing the law to calling for abolition of the very agencies charged with it. The “abolish ICE” line and the performative fury of 2018 were political slogans, not consistent policy frameworks, and many Democrats have since stepped back from the absolutist language when it started to hurt them at the ballot box. That flip-flop proves this is about power, not principle.

Now Democrats are trying to weaponize judges and procedure while rejecting the enforcement choices they once supported, even when bipartisan bills meant to tighten asylum rules are framed as “political theater.” They cry foul about deportations and raids after years of enabling porous borders and voting for laws that strengthened removal authority. Americans are tired of being lectured by a party that governs by double standard and then blames the hard choices on their opponents.

Conservatives should meet this hypocrisy with the same clarity and toughness the left abandons when it’s inconvenient: hold the line on secure borders, demand accountability, and make sure voters never forget who wrote those laws and who is playing politics with our national security. Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who defend the rule of law, not political sermons dressed as compassion. It’s time to make enforcement consistent and honest, and to make the Democrats own their record.
