A brazen political stunt by six Democratic lawmakers has landed where it belongs: under scrutiny. After releasing a coordinated video urging service members to “refuse illegal orders,” Senators Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin and Representatives Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, and Chrissy Houlahan found themselves the subjects of inquiries — and rightly so. This was not a harmless civics lesson; it was a calculated effort to inject partisan doubt into the military chain of command.
These lawmakers all boast military or intelligence résumés, which makes their behavior all the more dishonest. Veterans are supposed to uphold the chain of command and the rule of law, not weaponize their service to score political points or to sow confusion among troops. If they truly respected the oath they claim to cherish, they would understand how reckless and destabilizing their message was for those who wear the uniform.
Worse still is the predictable performance when the consequences came: instant victimhood and accusations of a “weaponized” FBI. Let’s be blunt — calling out interference with the military is not political persecution, it is accountability. If federal investigators ask reasonable questions about a public campaign that could undermine military cohesion, citizens should applaud, not whine.
The Biden-era playbook used to be to shield allies and pursue political enemies; now Democrats seem intent on flipping that script and then crying foul when anyone pushes back. Secretary Hegseth’s move to review Sen. Kelly’s status is appropriate given the stakes. No member of Congress should be able to skirt the consequences of actions that threaten readiness simply because they can stage a well-produced video and send fundraising pleas.
Make no mistake: the real scandal is the Democrats’ willingness to blur constitutional lines for partisan advantage. They want credit for “supporting the troops” while simultaneously telling soldiers to question lawful direction in vague, inflammatory terms. It’s theater dressed up as legal advice, designed to create headlines and drain donors, not to strengthen America’s defenses.
Conservatives should demand clarity and courage from our leaders. Hold the lawmakers accountable, demand transparency from the FBI and Pentagon about their procedures, and refuse to let one side’s theatrics be a free pass for undermining the institution that protects our liberties. If we love this country, we defend its military institutions from cynical political interference, no matter who’s doing the interfering.
This moment is a test of whether America still believes in order, duty, and accountability. Patriots of every party ought to reject efforts to politicize the uniform and insist that those who try to weaponize service for votes answer for it. Our military deserves leaders who reinforce loyalty and morale, not partisan operatives who treat our nation’s security as a campaign prop.
