In a stunning display of what can only be described as political commitment to oblivion, recent polling indicates that a significant proportion of Democrats is eager to plunge their party into even deeper progressive waters—one can only speculate if they’re using stones for flotation devices. Reports reveal that nearly half of Democrat voters want their party to embrace more radical progressive policies as they chase imaginary ideals instead of focusing on the reality that has already led them to electoral disaster.
The numbers, courtesy of RealClearPolitics, depict a party that has lost its grip on common sense. On Tax Day, no less, the poll revealed that 50% of Democrats are clamoring for their party to dive deeper into policies that have already been tested and found wanting. Notably, nearly 70% of very liberal Democrats and over half of those living in urban areas are shouting for a more progressive agenda, indicating a potential competition to see who can out-weird the other. This begs the question: what could possibly be more progressive than the current dumpster fire of policies championed by the Democrats?
One can only marvel at the thought process of these voters. Are they envisioning a world where fully socialized medicine—whose failure under the Obama administration is still fresh in the minds of many—becomes the new norm? Or perhaps they envision children’s programming glorifying sexual confusion as the latest phase of enlightenment. The utter lack of grounding in reality is akin to trying to navigate while blindfolded, and with often disastrous results.

Furthermore, the Democratic base seems blissfully unbothered by the consequences of their idealism. Who needs fiscal responsibility when annual deficits could hit $2 trillion — a figure the Biden administration casually tossed out as the new norm? They apparently believe that affirmative action based on race and sexuality will magically erase historic inequities while ignoring the clear evidence that such policies often aggravate the divisions they claim to resolve. One has to wonder if they believe that tariffs against a competitor like China are just too “last century,” favoring unrestrained global trade over national interests.
To inject frivolity into this political melodrama, the list of policies they want to amplify reads like a comedic script. Lowering the voting age to 16? Check. Packing the Supreme Court? Check. Allowing men to trample women in sports? That’s on the agenda too. Each of these ideas seems to compound the urgency of their impending decline. The so-called “progress” espoused by this sector of the party feels like a race to the finish line of electoral defeat.
If this is genuinely what Democrats want, they might as well go all in and let figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez take the helm. It’s a self-defeating strategy that will only serve to alienate the centrists and moderate Democrats who might still believe in rational governance. One can only hope that as they push these extreme policies, they continue to face electoral losses, exposing the disconnect between their ideals and what average Americans truly want. With luck, Democrats will continue this lackluster performance and steer their party right over the cliff of radicalism.
