Democrats Skeptical as Media Hypes Harris Amidst Border Crisis

The establishment media has spent the last several days generating an entirely artificial excitement for Vice President Kamala Harris, as if they’re trying to sell a used car that everyone knows is a lemon. But not all Democrats are buying what they’re trying to sell. Some, like Democratic Rep. Jared Golden, who represents Maine’s 2nd Congressional District—where former President Donald Trump won by a solid margin—are beginning to express their skepticism. In a rare display of political insight, Golden has outright declined to pledge his support for Harris, an indication that even Democrats are bracing themselves for the political turmoil that a Harris candidacy could drag them into.

The current crisis at the border, a topic that Harris has been directly associated with, has become an albatross around her neck. Golden, alongside a small group of other Democrats, recently voted to condemn the vice president’s handling of the situation, illustrating that there’s more than just an echo chamber at work in the Democratic party. Golden’s willingness to wait and see what Harris offers regarding her vision for the future is merely a polite way of saying that he’s not holding his breath. For moderates like him, a radical leftist agenda is not exactly what they had in mind when signing up for the Democratic Party.

No one can deny that Harris has some significant hurdles to overcome if she wants to emerge as the presumptive nominee. For starters, public opinion has soured on her significantly. Many Americans view her as something of a joke in national politics, lacking seriousness and substance. The prevailing sentiment could practically be summed up with a label of “unserious.” While some on social media have put it more bluntly, it’s safe to say that millions of Americans consider her an empty suit propped up by the politically correct elite who see no issues when criticizing and attacking critics.

When it comes to communication, Harris seems to excel in condescension rather than clarity. Her history of saying incomprehensible things while speaking down to everyone else has not done her any favors. Though, in her defense, she is merely following in the footsteps of her comrades in the media. For instance, Joy Reid from MSNBC recently tried to make the argument that supporting Harris is the way for black voters to avoid being perceived as “crazy” or “disconnected.” That level of elitism might as well be a badge of honor for leftists these days, but it certainly doesn’t foster trust among regular folks.

Lastly, dishonesty has unfortunately become synonymous with Harris’s public persona. Recently, the media has gone to great lengths to rewrite recent history regarding her role as “border czar,” completely ignoring her actual responsibilities on the southern border. Meanwhile, social media users aren’t buying it, with journalists being caught in contradictory statements about her past. It’s unclear if the media realizes that this dishonesty undermines their credibility more than it helps her campaign.

Golden’s hesitance to commit to Harris’s candidacy might be a shout into the void for most Democrats: a wake-up call that they haven’t yet received. As long as Harris is in the running, the nuances of her past actions and dubious statements will certainly come back to bite her as the general election approaches. Maybe once she officially secures her nomination, her fellow Democrats will take a moment to recognize the sheer absurdity of their predicament. But for now, it’s evident that they’re not just getting a bad car; they’re staring straight at a rusting political clunker.
