On Friday, a group of top House Democrats made it clear that they won’t accept a 2024 election win by former President Trump. They were not shy about their plans, indicating they may not certify the election results if Trump emerges victorious.
According to The Atlantic, these Democrats are taking a hard stance, suggesting that they won’t acknowledge a Trump 2024 victory unless the Supreme Court weighs in on whether the GOP front-runner should even be on the ballot.

A recent ruling in Colorado raised questions about Trump’s eligibility to appear on the ballot, citing the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.” However, the Supreme Court did not seem convinced that a state could bar him from the ballot based on this argument.
Attorney Jason Murray warned that if the Supreme Court does not address the issue of Trump’s eligibility, there could be significant backlash. This could lead to Congress disqualifying him when it comes time to count and certify the Electoral College votes after the election.
During discussions on this matter, Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California made it clear that she believes Trump is ineligible for another term, although she acknowledged the murky process for challenging this. Meanwhile, Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina labeled Trump as “an insurrectionist” and argued that he should not be permitted to seek reelection.
Rep. Adam Schiff, not wanting to wade into hypothetical chaos, declined to challenge Trump’s potential victory if the Supreme Court rules in his favor. Similarly, Rep. Eric Swalwell of California expressed that he wouldn’t challenge the Supreme Court’s decision on Trump’s eligibility for the ballot, emphasizing that he didn’t want to engage in similar actions to those of the Republicans on January 6th.
