DeSantis Crushes GOP Rival’s ‘Absurd’ Ballot Ploy in Trump Defense

In a recent interview with Fox News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had some choice words for businessman and Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy’s suggestion that fellow candidates remove their names from the ballots in Colorado and Maine in solidarity with former President Donald Trump. DeSantis called the idea “just absurd” and emphasized his responsibility to accumulate delegates, stating, “I’m not gonna unilaterally cede any, I’m gonna win as many as I can.”

DeSantis confidently predicted that the decisions in Colorado and Maine would be reversed, making Ramaswamy’s posturing ultimately without meaning. He also raised the question of whether President Biden, who he suggested green-lit the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants, should even be eligible to be on the ballot. DeSantis pointed out that if any of the other Republican hopefuls had been kicked off the ballot, Trump would not be calling for their removal.

It’s clear that DeSantis is not on board with Ramaswamy’s proposal, and why should he be? After all, Trump hasn’t been found guilty of any crimes, and the attempts to exclude him from the election would likely face serious due process issues. Moreover, Trump’s name hasn’t actually been removed from the ballot in either state, pending appeals.

One thing is for sure: Ramaswamy’s call for removal is nothing more than empty grandstanding, a political stunt from a man who claims not to be a politician. And with Ramaswamy’s dwindling support in national polls, it’s no surprise that he’s resorting to attention-grabbing tactics.

Meanwhile, DeSantis, along with other Republican hopefuls, has seen shifts in support in recent polling, with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley experiencing a significant boost in support. As for Trump, his support has increased since September, solidifying his status as a frontrunner for the GOP nomination.

Ultimately, the suggestion to remove names from the ballot seems more like a desperate attempt to gain relevance than a serious political strategy. With the 2024 election season heating up, it’s clear that the Republican field is competitive, and candidates are not going to make concessions at the mere demand of a struggling opponent.
