In an epic showdown between the Magic Kingdom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Disney has thrown in the towel and dropped its lawsuits against DeSantis’ beloved special district. The Sunshine State’s governor signed off on some legislation that shook up Mickey Mouse’s world by swapping out Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. The battle has been raging on for what feels like forever, but the mouse house finally decided to call it quits, much to the delight of DeSantis and his supporters.

Now, before you start feeling sorry for poor old Disney, let’s remember one thing – no one messes with Governor DeSantis and gets away with it! Disney had been trying to hold on to its little fiefdom, thinking it could run its own show independent of the state’s rules. Well, well, well, DeSantis wasn’t having any of that nonsense. He made sure to put the big corporation in its place, reminding everyone that in Florida, the governor calls the shots, not a bunch of cartoon characters.
And would you look at that, Disney had to eat some humble pie and admit that those sneaky last-minute deals they cooked up with the old Reedy Creek board were as worthless as a melted ice cream cone on a hot summer day. Lesson learned, eh, Mickey? You might have your theme parks and talking animals, but when you cross swords with DeSantis, you better be prepared to face the music.
So, now that Disney is getting a taste of good old-fashioned Florida governance, they suddenly see the light and start chirping about “constructive engagement” and “economic opportunity.” Yeah, sure, Disney, we totally believe that you’re all about creating jobs and boosting the economy. But let’s not forget who brought you to heel in the first place – Governor Ron DeSantis, that’s who!
In the end, it looks like the sunshine state’s favorite governor has once again shown that he’s not to be messed with. DeSantis knows that in Florida, it’s his way or the highway, and he’s not about to let some corporate giant think they can pull a fast one on him. So, here’s to Ron DeSantis, the man who tamed the mouse and reminded everyone that in the battle of cartoon characters versus politicians, the politicians always come out on top!
