Detroit Dems Ditch Diversity? Race Ruckus Rocks Michigan!

In a recent article from the Washington Examiner, it was reported that Michigan voters are once again in the spotlight as the 2024 White House and congressional races begin to heat up. The article shone a particular light on the lack of black representation in the Democratic Party in Michigan, particularly in the city of Detroit.

Which is important to note, but also, come on, do we really need to talk about race all the time? It’s tiresome. Shouldn’t we just pick the person who is best for the job, regardless of their race or gender? But hey, that’s just what the liberal media wants you to think, right?

So, in Michigan’s largest city, Detroit, there is currently no black member of Congress representing the people. This is the first time this has happened in over 50 years! It’s a real head-scratcher. However, the Democratic primary for Detroit’s 13th Congressional District is stirring up some drama for the party and President Joe Biden.

Adam Hollier, a former state senator and director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, is making a run for the Democratic primary against the incumbent, Rep. Shri Thanedar. Hollier is really playing up his race in this primary, hoping to win the support of the predominantly black constituency in Detroit. But really, does race have to be the main focus here? Can’t we just talk about the issues?

There’s been a lot of talk about how the black community feels like they’re being taken for granted once again. It seems like this is a recurring issue, and it’s disappointing that it’s become such a talking point. But maybe, just maybe, the focus should be on who can actually make a positive impact for the people of Detroit and not just on their race.

On the other hand, Rep. Thanedar, who is Indian-born, won the 2020 primary by 4,000 votes, partly because of a crowded field of predominantly black candidates. It’s a shame that race seems to play such a big role in the politics of this city. Shouldn’t we be looking at qualifications and policies instead of the color of someone’s skin?

It’s frustrating to see race being weaponized in politics, as if it’s the only thing that matters. I mean, there are so many other important issues at hand, and yet here we are, fixating on race once again. Can’t we just leave race out of it and focus on what really matters – finding the best candidate to serve the people of Detroit, regardless of their race or ethnicity?

The Michigan Democratic Party is catching some flak for not being in touch with the grassroots community and for not adequately representing the black population in Detroit. The black community’s dissatisfaction with the lack of representation is a valid concern, but it’s not the only concern. Shouldn’t the focus be on finding a candidate who can truly represent the needs and concerns of the people, regardless of race?

In the end, it’s disappointing to see race being used as a political tool once again. Can’t we just focus on the real issues facing the people of Detroit and pick the best candidate for the job? But hey, that’s just the biased media for you, always making everything about race.
