A bombshell report from the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General has raised a few eyebrows, especially among those who still believe in enforcing the rule of law. The report zeroes in on the Biden-Harris administration’s rather creative approach to border security, calling out U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Transportation Security Administration for their lackadaisical attitude toward releasing noncitizens without proper identification and letting them board our domestic flights. Yes, you read that right.
The investigation revealed that while CBP and ICE pretend to have protocols to verify identities when folks come into the country, they often throw those protocols out the window when dealing with noncitizens sans documentation. Instead of properly vetting these individuals, officers are all too happy to accept whatever biographical tidbits are self-reported. This means that not only could some of these noncitizens be questionable characters, but they can also board planes across America without any TSA-approved ID. Talk about a safety concern.
The TSA is also getting a stern talking-to for their screening methods. Apparently, their big plan for identifying noncitizens without proper IDs involves a guessing game of sorts with biographical data. They check against law enforcement databases, which is great, but even they admit that it’s not foolproof. The revelations from this report leave one scratching their head, especially considering the sheer number of undocumented individuals entering the U.S.
Unsurprisingly, the Inspector General’s report is full of recommendations. They suggest that CBP and ICE step up their risk assessment protocols and that TSA revamps its screening for the noncitizen crowd who can’t cough up a legitimate ID. Of course, the DHS has decided to ignore these suggestions, which has raised the alarm bells among those who take national security a bit more seriously than the current administration seems to.

As is often the case in today’s political climate, some are taking this opportunity to score points. Republican Rep. Mark Green likened the situation to asking a toddler to tidy their room—totally embarrassing for those in charge. He suggested that it’s common sense not to let unknown individuals wander around freely in America, especially when their identities can’t even be verified. The ongoing failures documented are disturbing enough, but the fact that they’re happening daily under the watchful—yet apparently indifferent—eye of the Biden-Harris administration is downright alarming.
The implications of this report are huge, affecting national security as well as immigration policy. When noncitizens without proper identification can flit about the U.S. with minimal supervision, it certainly raises questions about current border management strategies. As the national debate around immigration and border security continues to heat up, this report serves as a dire warning of the vulnerabilities in the system. Looks like the Biden-Harris team might want to engage more in adult supervision rather than simply letting the chaos reign.
