Domestic Violence Suspect Released, Strikes Again Hours Later

A brutal incident in Waldorf, Maryland, lays bare the real-world cost of courtroom leniency and so-called bail reform. On the night of November 7 into the early hours of November 8, a man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence was released and then returned to allegedly assault the same woman while she was holding her toddler, leaving the victim bloodied and both mother and child treated by EMS.

Authorities say 40-year-old James Bowman III was arrested after allegedly punching the woman and biting her hand, only to be released by a district court commissioner on personal recognizance with a condition barring further abuse. Less than an hour after his release, deputies say he came back to the home, forced open a locked bedroom and continued the attack, striking the child in the forehead during the struggle.

Prosecutors and local deputies moved quickly after the second assault, charging Bowman with assault and child abuse and having a judge later order him held without bond as the case moved forward. This is not an isolated failure; it is a pattern that repeats when elected officials and unelected magistrates prioritize theory over public safety.

Make no mistake: these are the consequences of a justice system that too often treats violent repeat suspects like minor inconveniences instead of clear threats to families. Patriotic Americans must reject the liberal fantasy that releasing violent offenders onto the streets protects anyone but the offender, and demand that domestic violence allegations—especially those with signs of escalation—trigger detention, not a free pass.

Lawmakers and judges should act now to restore common-sense standards that put victims first, not risk calculations that read like policy experiments at the expense of women and children. Voters should hold accountable the commissioners and officials who rubber-stamp dangerous releases, and insist that our criminal-justice system return to its core purpose: protecting the innocent and keeping our communities safe.
