Lemon went further in the interview, insisting “nobody is illegal” and downplaying border crossings as mere misdemeanors while invoking images of people being sent “off to a gulag,” language designed to inflame and to paint lawful enforcement as tyrannical. Those were more than slippery rhetoric — they were an attempt to recast criminal entry as moral high ground and to justify armed resistance if federal officers do their jobs.
Conservative commentators and ordinary Americans saw exactly what this was: a dangerous nudge toward real-world violence.
