As of now, Elmo’s tweet has been bombarded with over 13,000 comments, 48,000 re-posts, 116,000 likes, and a whopping 178 million views. The overwhelming majority of responses were a symphony of despair and exhaustion. One user, in a rare moment of unfiltered honesty, admitted to being at their wits’ end, and that frank admission has been re-posted over 108,000 times with a mind-boggling 508,000 likes.
Others didn’t hold back either, with responses ranging from dark humor to solemn confessions. Someone even asked Elmo if he wanted a cigarette before diving into the emotional wreckage. It’s safe to say that Elmo’s innocent inquiry quickly turned into a viral trauma dump.
In a feeble attempt to save face, Elmo tried to play it off with a follow-up tweet, saying he was “glad” he asked and reminding everyone of the importance of checking in on friends. But let’s be real here. This writer highly doubts that Elmo, or whoever is really behind that account, is actually happy about the whole situation. Who can blame him? With all the doom and gloom, it must feel like dancing in a minefield.
In the end, it seems Elmo’s innocent check-in ended up being anything but innocent, serving as a stark reminder of the negativity swirling around in today’s world. It’s a tough world out there, folks, and even Elmo can’t escape the storm of despair on social media.
