In a stunning turn of events, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) after it filed a lawsuit against his company, SpaceX. The lawsuit alleges that SpaceX unlawfully refused to hire asylum seekers and refugees, violating federal law. Assistant AG of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Kristen Clarke, stated that SpaceX “failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status.” The complaint claims that SpaceX recruiters and high-level officials actively discouraged these individuals from seeking employment opportunities at the company.
According to the DOJ, SpaceX only hired one individual who was an asylee over a period of four years and more than 10,000 hires. Ironically, this hiring occurred after the DOJ initiated its investigation. However, Elon Musk fired back on Thursday night, expressing his frustration with the lawsuit. In a tweet, Musk argued that SpaceX was repeatedly informed that hiring non-permanent residents would violate international arms trafficking law, equating it to a criminal offense. He accused the DOJ of weaponizing itself for political purposes, once again shining a spotlight on the partisan nature of our government agencies.
This latest legal challenge comes just days after Musk announced his intention to sue organizations funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros, which have been advocating for restrictions on free speech. In a recent post on X, Musk supported journalist Michael Shellenberger’s claim that Soros-funded NGOs are spreading false information about increasing “hate incidents” to justify their agenda. Musk highlighted the need to protect free expression and criticized the attempt to suppress it through a draconian crackdown on free speech.
It is clear that the accusations against SpaceX have been met with strong resistance from Elon Musk himself. As this legal battle unfolds, it raises questions about the motives and agenda behind the DOJ’s actions. Is this a genuine concern for the rights of asylees and refugees, or is it yet another attempt to undermine conservative voices like Musk? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – Musk is not one to back down from a fight, especially when he believes his principles and the future of free speech are at stake.
