Another entitled government official thinks the rules don’t apply to her. Devon Hogan Flanagan, a 34-year-old Rhode Island prosecutor, was caught on camera acting like a total brat during her arrest last week. She refused to leave a Newport restaurant when asked and then tried to boss around the cops who showed up to do their job.
The body camera footage tells the whole story. This arrogant prosecutor kept telling officers “I’m an AG” like that gives her special privileges to break the law. She even had the nerve to demand the officer turn off his body camera, claiming it was “protocol” when citizens request it.
What a load of garbage. There’s no such protocol, and this woman knows it. She’s a lawyer who works for the state, but she thinks she can lie to police officers and get away with it. The restaurant workers had every right to kick her out, and they told police to arrest her.
This is exactly what’s wrong with our government today. Too many bureaucrats think they’re above the law that regular Americans have to follow. They live by different rules and expect special treatment just because they have fancy titles and taxpayer-funded jobs.
The police officers did their job perfectly. They stayed professional while this entitled prosecutor threw her little tantrum on camera. She got exactly what she deserved when they put her in handcuffs for trespassing.
Her boss, Attorney General Peter Neronha, says he’s reviewing the situation. He better do more than just give her an unpaid vacation. This woman embarrassed her office and disrespected hardworking police officers who were just doing their duty.
Government employees need to remember they work for us, not the other way around. When they break the law, they should face the same consequences as everyone else. No special treatment, no get-out-of-jail-free cards.
This video should be shown in every government office across America. Maybe it will remind these public servants that they’re not royalty, they’re employees. And when employees act up, they get fired.
