ESPN just proved once again that woke politics matter more than sports fans. The network posted a graphic showing sports “icons” to promote their new streaming service. But something was very wrong with their choices.
The graphic had 11 WNBA players but only 10 NFL stars and just 5 college football players. Think about that for a second. The WNBA gets more space than the NFL, which brings in billions of dollars and millions of viewers every week.
Even worse, ESPN left out Scottie Scheffler, the number one golfer in the world. They also barely included any baseball players. But hey, at least they made sure to pack in plenty of women’s basketball players that most Americans couldn’t name if their lives depended on it.
This is what happens when corporate boardrooms care more about checking diversity boxes than serving their customers. ESPN thinks they know better than the millions of fans who actually watch sports. They want to force-feed us women’s basketball while ignoring the sports people really love.
The backlash was swift and brutal. Real sports fans called out ESPN’s ridiculous priorities on social media. The criticism was so intense that ESPN tucked their tail between their legs and deleted the whole thing.
This isn’t just about sports graphics. It’s about a company that has completely lost touch with regular Americans. ESPN used to be the place where sports fans could escape politics and just enjoy the games. Now they lecture us about what we should care about.
The network has been pushing this woke agenda for years now. They hire activists instead of sports experts. They spend more time talking about social justice than actual games. And now they’re telling us that WNBA players are bigger icons than NFL superstars.
Maybe ESPN should focus on what their customers actually want to watch. Until they do, more and more real sports fans will keep changing the channel. America doesn’t need another woke corporation telling us what to think.
