2023 was a year filled with chaos and shenanigans on Capitol Hill, and the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) has taken the time to shine a bright light on all the ethical violations that have been running rampant. And let’s just say, the results are not surprising. At the tippy-top of the list of wrongdoers sits the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) – the very office that was supposed to keep all the other politicians in check.

You see, the supposed purpose of the OCE was to make sure that members of Congress played by the rules – they were supposed to be the good guys, the watchdogs. But instead, according to FACT, they’ve been more like the Three Blind Mice, turning a blind eye to all the misbehaving members and letting them off scot-free. One of the major infractions FACT highlighted was the misuse of taxpayer resources for political gain. This means that some members of Congress have been using official government goodies to boost their own public profiles and, in turn, their reelection campaigns.
FACT has pointed out that these violations are as clear as day! The offending members have been shamelessly plastering their malfeasance all over their social media accounts, like a villain monologuing their entire evil plan. And even though the OCE has caught these culprits red-handed in the past, they just couldn’t be bothered to do anything about it in 2023.
Now, let’s not forget about the bunch of usual suspects that FACT has called out. From Senator Raphael Warnock raking in some questionable cash to Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulling fire alarms like it’s a frat house prank, the list is chock-full of eyebrow-raising antics.
