Ex-President Trump Nominated for House Speaker? GOP Says Yes!

In an unexpected turn of events, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who used to be House Speaker, said he will not be running for office again. This makes a lot of Republicans sad because they were hoped McCarthy would keep leading the party in the House. Don't worry, though; U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) has put forward former President Donald Trump as House Speaker.

Nehls made the news public on social media by writing, "Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker." Donald J. Trump is my choice for Speaker of the House. Why not? Members of the House can actually choose someone who is not a member of Congress to be speaker. This is not the first time Trump has been put forward for the job. Earlier this year, U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) did the same thing.

Of course, Trump's chances of becoming speaker are very, very small. As of right now, U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is the speaker pro tempore. Since 2004, McHenry has been a member of Congress and is a seasoned lawmaker. He is currently the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and used to be the top deputy whip for the Republicans in the House.

Even though McHenry might not be as well-known or charismatic as Trump, he will be in charge of running the House until a new<extra_id_-1> speaker is chosen. That won't happen this week, though, because McHenry has chosen to send lawmakers home until Monday. For now, it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to find out who will finally take the gavel.

McCarthy hasn't said for sure that he won't support a candidate once the conference chooses its choices. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) are two names that have been brought up as possible candidates. On the other hand, neither member has said they are running, so we'll have to see how the race goes.

In general, the world of House Republican leadership is interesting and unpredictable right now. Since Trump has been named for House Speaker and McCarthy and McHenry are also in the running, no one knows who will win in the end. Watch this space for more news about this exciting political story!
