Democrats in North Carolina are at it again, proving the left’s mantra of “free speech for me, but not for thee” is more than just a slogan. While they lamented Jimmy Kimmel’s recent removal from the airwaves—blaming their favorite scapegoats on the right—they’re hard at work trying to erase political images that expose the real cost of their failed policies. State Senator Mujtaba Mohammed is spearheading a proposal to ban political ads from depicting deceased crime victims like Iryna Zarutska, the young woman brutally murdered on public transit, and conservative champion Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated earlier this month. What better way to hide the consequences of soft-on-crime legislation and divisive rhetoric than to banish their most damning symbols from public view?
This isn’t just opportunism—it’s naked censorship disguised as “compassion.” The legislation would block the use of names, images, or likenesses of crime victims in campaign ads, conveniently shielding Democrats from having to answer for tragedies that occur under their watch. Make no mistake, Zarutska’s tragic death at the hands of a career criminal on Charlotte’s light rail shook the nation precisely because it laid bare the dangers of lax criminal justice reforms. Now, Democrats want to ensure those images never see the light of day when voters head to the polls. It’s as if the left knows their policies can’t withstand the scrutiny of reality, so they scramble to keep that reality hidden.

Meanwhile, Charlie Kirk’s assassination sent shockwaves through the conservative movement—and exposed the double standard at play. For the left, the Kimmel affair is a crisis; the murder of Kirk is an inconvenience. Ultimately, no amount of legislative whitewashing will succeed in burying the truth. Images of heroes, silenced and innocent victims, will keep circulating, regardless of Democrats' attempts to suppress them.
