This latest one, however, takes the proverbial cake for creativity and perhaps a dash of desperation. Picture this: the Wall Street Journal, a reputable publication, apparently tried to convince us all that Trump spent his evenings clacking away on a typewriter, crafting an off-color letter to Jeffrey Epstein, complete with a hand-drawn illustration of a naked woman. Yes, really.
Now, anyone familiar with Trump’s famously straightforward, sometimes colorful rhetoric might find this hard to swallow. In between tweets and off-the-cuff remarks that can often be a bit, let’s say, less than poetic, imagining Trump pouring over an inkwell to create raunchy letters sounds like something straight out of a Shakespearean comedy. It would almost be comical if it weren’t intent on suggesting something far more nefarious.
But alas, the plot unravels. No verifiable source confirms the existence of such a letter, and there is no evidence of Ghislaine Maxwell offering insight into this claim. Say what you will about Donald Trump, but the man has a signature that could be spotted from a mile away – bold, jagged, and unmistakable. Yet, the mysterious letter’s alleged signature looks about as much like Trump’s autograph as a preschooler’s scrawl resembles a Picasso. One would expect the Wall Street Journal, with a bit more checking, to realize this and possibly save themselves from a threatened lawsuit that Trump has stated he will initiate.
This latest caper, cooked up from bits and pieces of rumors and speculation, mostly falls flat when faced with the glaring light of day. One almost has to appreciate the audacity, but let’s be real – not even Nicolas Cage, in his wildest National Treasure sequel, could weave a tale as improbable as this one. And while the saga unfolds, keep an eye out for other political fumbles, because as this escapade shows, there’s never a shortage in the spectacle of American politics.
