FBI Dodges Testimony on Trump Assassination Attempt, Frustration Mounts

The latest episode from the government’s “Misdirection Theater” unfolded as FBI Director Christopher Wray played the classic game of dodgeball with the House Homeland Security Committee’s request to testify. Lawmakers wanted answers about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, but they got crickets. Evidently, Wray’s schedule is packed with more important things than addressing a serious threat to a former President’s life.

Capital Hill is now a hotbed of tension following the reckless shooting at Trump’s rally. Lawmakers are shaking their fists at the Biden administration and demanding to know how the shooter practically waltzed up to Trump. It’s clear that the answers they seek aren’t going to be handed over on a silver platter anytime soon. Instead, there’s been a lot of buck-passing and radio silence. The FBI, demonstrating typical bureaucratic inertia, has yet to confirm if they’ll send another official, or whether Wray might sashay in on another date.

Committee Chairman Mark Green issued an SOS for Wray, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to appear for testimony. Green emphasized that the American populace isn’t exactly thrilled with the level of protection offered to its leaders. It’s common sense to expect those who are supposed to be on guard to show up and explain how an assassination attempt was almost successful on their watch.

Adding to the cloak-and-dagger routine, the Committee hasn’t gotten a peep from Secret Service or DHS about whether Cheatle or Mayorkas plan to make an appearance. It seems like the powers-that-be have decided Stonewall Jackson is their spirit animal.

The Committee’s next move remains shrouded in mystery. However, one can only hope that the investigation gets to the bottom of what went wrong. The rally shooting left Trump injured, and tragically, rallygoer Corey Comperatore lost his life. Two others were wounded. One would think such alarming breaches would prompt a swift and detailed response. But in D.C., efficiency is as mythical as unicorns.

The drama on Capitol Hill underscores an unsettling trend: evasion over accountability. As Trump and his supporters demand transparency and justice, the bureaucratic script appears to be one of delay and deflection.
