The FBI is now under intense scrutiny as new allegations suggest that former Director James Comey orchestrated a covert operation during the 2016 presidential campaign to infiltrate Donald Trump’s team using undercover agents, known as “honeypots.” These claims, brought forward by a whistleblower in a protected disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee, have sparked a fresh investigation led by current FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino. The revelations have reignited debates over institutional bias and abuse of power within federal agencies.
According to the whistleblower, Comey personally directed this off-the-books operation in 2015, shortly after Trump announced his candidacy. Two female FBI employees were reportedly embedded within the Trump campaign at high levels and instructed to use romantic or personal interactions to gather information. Unlike the well-known Crossfire Hurricane investigation into alleged Russian collusion, this earlier probe lacked formal documentation or prediction, raising serious legal and ethical concerns. The operation was allegedly shut down after a major media outlet obtained a photograph of one of the undercover agents and threatened to publish it. Following this incident, one of the agents was transferred to the CIA, effectively removing her as a potential witness, while the other received a promotion within the FBI. The whistleblower also claimed that employees involved in the operation were explicitly warned never to discuss it, which they interpreted as a direct threat.
