A Fox News correspondent recently proved that a little tenacity goes a long way, especially when it involves tracking down members of “The Squad,” including the ever-animated Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota. During President Trump’s recent address, while most of America was busy applauding some common-sense policies, Democrats decided to linger in the shadows, blatantly refusing to participate in bipartisan applause. Johnny Belisario turned an ordinary evening into a real-life game of political tag, trying to find out why Democrats chose silence over celebration.
The stage was set as Belisario lamented the stone-faced reactions of the Democrats who were clearly more comfortable performing their best impression of statues than engaging with the American people. His efforts were met with a cavalcade of evasive maneuvering by the likes of Omar and her cohorts, who “politely” reminded him that they were too busy with other pressing “meetings” to talk about their lack of applause for moving speeches about women’s rights in sports and the families affected by tragic events. The agony of having to face a hard-hitting question about their shameful behavior was clearly too much for some of them to bear.
As Democrats scurried for cover, one could almost feel the pressure cooker of accountability heating up. Omar, evidently not fond of facing the public’s scrutiny, gave Belisario a gentle shove, reminding him that space was at a premium and he was occupying some she’d prefer to keep for herself. Watching these elected officials attempt to dodge questions like they were training for the Olympics was nothing short of comedic gold—but not the kind you’d want to take home for a trophy.
Senator John Fetterman, who may have been one of the few brave enough to admit that their performance was less than stellar, also caught wind of the political chaos brewing around him. His admission made it clear that even Democrats couldn’t escape the glaring optics of their lack of engagement. Most, however, were too busy pretending nothing happened as they scrambled to their next appointments, only to resemble a group of high school students trying to avoid getting caught by the principal.

The spectacle didn’t stop there. The antics reached a new low when Rep. Al Green decided to channel his inner drama queen and make a scene by shouting during Trump’s speech. His post-ejection antics drew attention for all the wrong reasons, and the subsequent singsong blockade was hardly a masterclass in political protest. It seemed more like a temper tantrum in a toddler playpen rather than the actions of America’s leaders. As the smirks and eye rolls continued, even some Democratic strategists acknowledged that their colleagues might need to rethink their approach—dancing out of the camera’s view might not be the best strategy moving forward.
Overall, the night solidified the Democrats’ reputation as masters of evasion and excessive theatrics, confirming that perhaps they’d prefer to engage in soap opera antics rather than address serious issues. This display not only highlighted their discomfort with bipartisan acknowledgment but also reinforced the grip Republicans currently hold over Washington, D.C. At this rate, the only thing in jeopardy of being left behind is their credibility, as they double down on the pretense of saying anything that remotely resembles understanding the sentiments of their constituents.
