In a classic display of political double standards, Attorney General Merrick Garland continues to drag the legal process around Donald Trump like a disobedient puppy. With President-elect Trump set to take office soon, Garland’s plans to release the Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report regarding the January 6 insurrection saga are on track—yet, unsurprisingly, he’s keeping the report related to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago classified document case under wraps. It seems that the more scandalous details must remain hidden, at least until after Trump’s electoral victory.
Garland’s reluctance to unveil the report concerning the Mar-a-Lago documents smacks of political maneuvering. To add a sprinkle of irony, Trump’s co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, are still on trial, which is conveniently serving as a justification for keeping those documents sealed. It’s almost comical how Garland claims this is to avoid “any risk of prejudice,” yet it raises the question of whether the AG is trying to protect the very integrity of the justice system or simply stalling for time while the powder keg of political bias simmers away.

In a stroke of remarkable timing, federal prosecutors recently filed to ensure their tactics in this case could be executed without interference. They made clear that not only will the two-volume report be selectively released, but top members of the House and Senate Judiciary committees will get to peek at the Mar-a-Lago details at the DOJ—all while proclaiming that full transparency is a cherished value. As if releasing fragments of reports to lawmakers who can’t keep their mouths shut is a commitment to openness. Remember when that was the standard for true democracy?
The courtroom antics are the cherry on top of this convoluted legal sundae. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, showing a rare glimmer of fairness, has agreed to block the release of the reports until she examines the evidence more closely. Perhaps she sensed the overwhelming stench of political opportunism wafting from Smith and Garland’s plans. Trump, meanwhile, has decided to take matters into his own hands, urging Garland to cut his losses, fire Smith, and leave the decision-making to the attorney general post-inauguration. Because why not? Taking control has always been Trump’s forte.
Let’s not forget, this legal drama surrounds Trump amid other legal challenges, such as the absurd hush money case set for his impending sentencing. The endless cycle of investigations just keeps chugging along, as if the Democrat establishment believes they can derail Trump at every turn. The media shuffles through this information as if it were mundane news while ignoring the broader implications of a weaponized justice system aiming for political assassination. It’s high time for Americans to wake up and smell the bias, or better yet, take a chartered flight to a country where such ludicrousness isn’t the standard.
