Gen Z’s Liberal Swing: Less Religion, More LGBTQ+!

A recent study conducted by researchers at UCLA’s Williams Institute claims that a mere 0.5 percent of all American adults, that’s 1.3 million people, and about 300,000 young people aged 13 to 17 identify as transgender. These individuals “identify” with a different gender than the one they were assigned at birth. Who knew?

Despite this, it seems like the big supporters of the LGBTQ+ movement would have you believe that there’s no such thing as “social contagion” affecting the increasing number of young people identifying as gay, transgender, and so on. Yeah, right!

In addition, a new poll has revealed that a shocking number of young people are identifying as LGBTQ+ compared to previous generations. Those belonging to Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, are less likely to join an established religion and more likely to identify as LGBTQ+. And as if that’s not enough, they are also “less likely to be Republican.” Surprise, surprise!

This survey, conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute, questioned over 6,000 individuals aged 13 and older from Aug. 21 to Sept. 15, 2023. The findings were, well, quite telling. It turns out that 43 percent of Gen Z adults identify as “liberal,” with about 36 percent aligning themselves with the Democrats and only 21 percent claiming to be Republicans. Oh, and 30 percent of them apparently prefer to go it alone as Independents.

It seems that Gen Z doesn’t like to commit to labels, politically or otherwise. “Clearly, Gen Z does not like to be labeled and they’re not necessarily wanting to hang their hat with a particular political party these days,” PRRI CEO Melissa Deckman noted. And hey, it looks like the ladies are more likely to lean left with the Democrats. Surprise, surprise!

Oh, and here’s another kicker – it appears that a good chunk of Gen Z adults, including a whopping 74% of Gen Z Democrats, are on board with the idea that “we won’t be able to solve the country’s big problems until the older generation no longer holds power.” Can you believe that?

Not just that, when it comes to religion, it turns out that only 27 percent of Gen Z adults identify as “white Christians” while 33 percent claim to be “religiously unaffiliated.” And as if this isn’t enough, a striking 28 percent of Gen Z adults also identify as LGBTQ+. That’s compared to 16 percent of millennials, 7 percent of Generation X, and a measly 4 percent of baby boomers and the Silent Generation. Who would have thought!

Oh, and if that’s not enough, a poll from 2021 found that nearly a quarter of college students wouldn’t be friends with someone who voted for the opposite presidential candidate, with Democrats leading the charge in dismissing people with differing views. Surprise, surprise!

So there you have it, the not-so-shocking findings that the younger generation is leaning more and more to the left, away from religion, and embracing the LGBTQ+ lifestyle. But hey, who’s surprised? Certainly not us!
