Geraldo Rivera, one of the liberal voices on Fox News’s “The Five,” is finally leaving the program. Rivera’s last appearance on “The Five” will be next week. While he has been a correspondent at large for the network, he has been quite the thorn in the side of Fox’s conservative hosts. Rivera has been suspended multiple times, with his latest suspension being in early May. He tweeted disparaging comments about Tucker Carlson, calling Carlson’s theories about the Capitol insurrection “bullshit.”
It’s been a long and turbulent ride for Geraldo, but it’s finally coming to an end. He admits that management at Fox didn’t race after him to convince him to stay, and he didn’t want to stay at “The Five” anyway. Four of the hosts on the show are conservatives, so having Rivera as the lone liberal voice was always a bit of a contentious situation.
Despite his years with Fox, the liberal host has never been able to fit in with the conservative-leaning direction of the network. He’s often been in conflict with not only the conservative hosts but also the management and leadership at Fox. Although he’ll remain a correspondent at large until his contract expires in January 2025, Rivera says goodbye to “The Five” because it’s become too intimate and personal for him. He explains that there has been tension beyond editorial differences, making it more trouble than it’s worth.
While his departure may be bittersweet, many conservatives at Fox and across America will not miss Geraldo Rivera’s biased and unfounded opinions. Rivera has proven himself to be out of touch with the values of the American people, and it’s no surprise that his liberal voice was never able to blend in with the Fox News team. As a whole, Fox News will continue to do what it does best: providing fair and credible news reports to inform the public. Meanwhile, Rivera will be free to continue his biased and misguided work elsewhere.
Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive. My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity. Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large.
