Girl Scouts Shift Focus from Skills to Political Agendas, Parents Concerned

Girl Scouts leaders just appeared at another elite summit pushing their new agenda on young girls. Meredith Maskara spoke at the 2025 Forbes Power Women’s Summit about what she calls the “real issues” Girl Scouts are solving. But many parents are asking if these are really the issues our daughters should be focused on.

Maskara runs development for Girl Scouts of the USA and comes from a Girl Scout family herself. She has five daughters in the program and used to run the New York chapter. She helped create Troop 6000, which works with girls in homeless shelters across New York City.

The Forbes summit focused on creating “tomorrow’s power women” and pushing young girls into leadership roles. This sounds nice, but it raises questions about what values are really being taught. Are we training girls to be strong women or just pushing a political agenda on children?

These corporate summits and elite gatherings worry many American families. Forbes is known for its liberal politics and big business connections. When Girl Scout leaders appear at these events, it makes parents wonder who is really calling the shots in their daughters’ troops.

Girl Scouts used to teach girls practical skills like cooking, sewing, and helping their communities. The focus was on building character and teaching young women to be good wives and mothers. Now the organization seems more interested in creating activists and corporate leaders.

Many conservative families have already pulled their daughters out of Girl Scouts over political concerns. The organization has taken stands on issues that don’t belong in a children’s group. Parents want their kids learning life skills, not left-wing politics.

American families deserve youth organizations that respect their values and beliefs. Girls should learn confidence and leadership without being fed a steady diet of feminist messaging. There are better ways to raise strong daughters than elite summits and corporate partnerships.

Parents need to pay attention to what their children are learning in these programs. If Girl Scouts wants to keep serving American families, they need to get back to their roots. Our daughters deserve better than becoming pawns in someone else’s political game.
