Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has agreed to put an end to his criticisms of two Georgia election workers in the wake of a hefty defamation judgment against him. This decision comes after court documents revealed that Giuliani had made accusatory statements against Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, suggesting they were involved in stealing the election. These remarks led to public backlash, with some going as far as to label them as racist. The two workers were ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing by Georgia election authorities in June 2023, after being targeted by former President Donald Trump in his claims of election fraud during the 2020 election.
Freeman and Moss have spoken out about the impact of the accusations on their lives, with Freeman disclosing that she felt unsafe and was forced to relocate due to threats. She expressed feeling as though her name and reputation had been unjustly tarnished by the actions of prominent figures like Giuliani and Trump.
Despite the defamation judgment and the subsequent bankruptcy filing by Giuliani, he expressed a desire to appeal the verdict. However, the court ruled that he could only do so if he utilized approved donors to cover his legal fees.
Under the terms of the agreement reached this week, Giuliani has also consented to allow the court to enforce the judgment and injunction in the future. This development has been hailed by Michael J. Gottlieb, an attorney for Freeman and Moss, who described it as putting an end to Giuliani’s efforts to profit from falsehoods about the two election workers.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Arizona officials recently served Giuliani with an indictment at his 80th birthday party, causing a stir among those in attendance.
