In a bold move, House Republicans are asking the Department of Justice (DOJ) to be clear and give them papers about the investigations into Hunter Biden. This happened after David Weiss was put in charge of the Hunter Biden case as a special counsel. This happened after a plea deal fell through because of judicial review.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, GOP Reps. Jim Jordan, Jason Smith, and James Comer expressed concerns about how the DOJ handled the Hunter Biden investigation and asked for new scope memos, directions, or orders about Mr. Weiss's appointment. The lawmakers gave the DOJ until September 11 to give them the papers they asked for.
In the letter, the DOJ is criticized for getting in the way of the probe and accused of favoring Hunter Biden because he is related to President Joe Biden. The fact that Mr. Biden's June plea deal, which was for tax-related misdemeanors and having a gun without a permit, fell apart shows that he could face more charges.
The lawmakers also talk about whistleblowers who said at a recent committee meeting that the DOJ slowed down the investigation on purpose and that Mr. Biden should have been charged with more serious tax crimes. The letter raises questions about when Mr. Weiss was appointed and says that he didn't need to be a special counsel if he already had "ultimate" control over the case.
Also, the letter says that Mr. Garland and Mr. Weiss have said different things about Mr. Weiss's authority in the past, and it raises concerns about changes to normal processes during the investigation. People also worry about Mr. Weiss's fairness because of news stories that say he may have had a "close and personal relationship" with the late Beau Biden.
Jordan and his fellow GOP representatives are not shy about asking for openness and accountability in the Hunter Biden investigation. They do this with the wit and attention to detail that they are known for. As this probe goes on, we can be sure that things will get heated.
