Reps. Jim Jordan and James Comer, two mighty chairmen, are leading the charge in the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into Biden. They’ve set their sights on Amos Hochstein, a senior energy adviser in the Biden administration. These GOP titans warned Hochstein that if he keeps dodging their requests to chat, they won’t hesitate to sic a subpoena on him faster than you can say “U-S-A!”
But why all the commotion? Well, buckle up, folks, because this is where things get juicy. You see, Hochstein spilled the beans to the Senate about some chit-chats he had with Joe Biden and his son Hunter back in 2015. And what were they gabbing about, you ask? Oh, just Hunter’s cushy gig on the board of a Ukrainian energy company called Burisma. Talk about a hot topic!
Hochstein, who was the big cheese at the State Department fighting corruption in Ukraine at the time, let the Senate know that Joe Biden swooped in and swooshed away a troublesome Ukrainian prosecutor in December 2015. And this prosecutor just so happened to be sniffing around Burisma’s business. Coincidence? These GOP bulldogs don’t think so!
Now, hold on to your red, white, and blue hats, because there’s more! Hunter Biden wasn’t just twiddling his thumbs on the board of Burisma. Oh no, he was raking in a cool $1 million a year for his troubles. And get this: His salary got chopped in half in 2017, right after dear old dad stepped down as vice president. Smells fishy, doesn’t it? Well, the GOP certainly thinks so!
The White House counsel tried to put the kibosh on Hochstein spilling the beans again, saying it was all old news. But the GOP wasn’t having it! They shot back, saying they had every right to chat with Hochstein and that the counsel’s excuses were as flimsy as a house of cards.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get any spicier, enter Devon Archer, a friend of Hunter’s who spilled some beans of his own. According to Archer, Hunter made a phony phone call to his pops just days before Joe Biden put the squeeze on that inconvenient prosecutor. Coincidence? The GOP thinks not!
