You won’t believe this, folks! Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin really did it this time. He voted against the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and boy, did it cause a stir! The vote ended up failing by just a hair, with 214 yeas to 216 nays. Talk about a close call!
Now, when the Daily Caller News Foundation caught up with Gallagher, he had a little something to say about his decision. He called it “a matter of principle.” Well, isn’t that just fancy? But let me tell you, folks, reasonable people can disagree, but Gallagher is standing his ground. He didn’t want to go back on his word and contradict his opposition to the two impeachment trials against Trump. You gotta respect the man for sticking to his guns.

But wait, there’s more! Gallagher wasn’t alone in his rebellion. Republican Reps. Ken Buck of Colorado and Tom McClintock of California also joined the fight against Mayorkas’ impeachment. And get this, folks. Republican Rep. Blake Moore of Utah initially supported the impeachment but changed his vote after some pressure from the House Republican leaders. Talk about political maneuvering!
Now, the Republicans who had been calling for Mayorkas’ impeachment were absolutely fuming after the vote failed. Republican Rep. Nancy Mace even took to Twitter to express her outrage, calling it a “resounding betrayal of the American people.” She’s put “X” at the end of her name now, probably to mark the spot where she stood up for what she believed in. You know, folks, this just goes to show how divided our nation is.
But before the vote, there were signs that this impeachment might not have enough support. Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez of Florida told the Daily Caller News Foundation that “the vast majority will probably vote for it,” but they needed every single vote to make it happen. It looks like they fell just short of their goal. Better luck next time, I suppose.
Now, here’s the cherry on top, folks. Gallagher had been courted by Senate Republicans to run against Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin in 2024. But guess what? He said no! He’s not afraid to take unpopular votes, and he’s got his sights set on fixing the problem at the Southern border. Good for him, folks. He’s a real maverick.
In the end, folks, it’s clear that Gallagher stood his ground and voted based on his principles. Sure, the Republicans may not have succeeded in impeaching Mayorkas this time, but they’re not giving up that easily. Keep your eyes peeled, because this fight ain’t over yet.
