Caroline Duddridge, a UK grandma with some serious business acumen, is standing tall this year in the face of rising food costs and inflation. With food prices going through the roof, she has to make sure she’s not left holding the (Christmas) bag, quite literally.

So, the boss grandma is asking her daughters to pony up about $15.21 for a spot at the table this Christmas, a step up from the $12.67 she requested last year. And can you believe it? Some people have the nerve to complain about this perfectly reasonable price hike. But come on, folks, let’s cut her some slack. The lady’s got some serious shopping to do, and she’s not made of money.
And it doesn’t stop there. Her sons are shelling out about $19 a head for the Christmas extravaganza, while her grandkids are contributing a mere $3.15 each. But hey, they better count their lucky stars, because at least their dinner price didn’t skyrocket. It’s like they hit the Christmas jackpot!
To justify the price increase for her daughters, Caroline points out that they work part-time and are raising families, while her sons are working full-time. Makes perfect sense, right? Besides, she’s got this whole feast figured out. It lasts from Christmas Eve through Boxing Day and involves enough food to feed a small army. Let’s not forget, she’s been doing this for the past six years, since her husband passed away. She even makes enough food to keep the grandparents fed for three days, and they don’t even have to leave the comfort of their own home.
But not everyone is feeling the festive spirit of Grandma Duddridge’s entrepreneurial excellence. Some naysayers are grumbling about her charging for Christmas dinner. To that, she just shrugs it off, saying, “There were the usual trolls, but some people thought it was a really good idea – they even said they were going to adopt it themselves.” See, there are always haters when an innovator steps onto the scene.
