Greene Demands NATO Exit, Biden Clings to Failed Alliance

In a bold move, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has called for President Joe Biden to withdraw the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As a staunch conservative, Greene argues that NATO is simply not a reliable partner, with member nations consistently failing to meet their minimal military funding obligations. These nations should be footing their own bills, not expecting hardworking American taxpayers to pick up the slack. It’s about time someone addressed this issue!

Greene proposed an amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, urging the president to withdraw from NATO. She argued that for far too long, countries like Germany have only contributed around 1 percent of their GDP to NATO’s obligations, while the United States has been shouldering the burden at a staggering 4 percent. It’s absolutely ludicrous that Western European countries are not stepping up to meet their financial obligations, especially when their security is at stake. We need to prioritize our own defense and stop playing nanny to others.

While some may question Greene’s claim that European NATO allies are “entirely beholden to Russia,” it’s no secret that these countries have historically relied heavily on Russian oil and gas. It’s alarming to think that they have been willing to put their energy needs above their own security. By pulling out of NATO, the United States can put an end to this dependency and protect our own interests without being dragged into unnecessary conflicts.

To no one’s surprise, President Biden stands firmly opposed to Greene’s proposal. In fact, he used a NATO summit in Lithuania to reaffirm his commitment to the alliance. But let’s not forget that President Biden has been known to make promises he can’t keep. His tweet about an “ironclad commitment” to NATO is nothing more than empty rhetoric. As conservatives, we need to hold him accountable for prioritizing global alliances over our national security.

Interestingly, Greene didn’t stop at calling for a withdrawal from NATO. She also submitted amendments to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, seeking to remove financial and military assistance to Ukraine. This includes prohibiting the provision of F-16 fighter jets and long-range missiles. It’s time to rethink our involvement in foreign conflicts and focus on protecting our own borders.

While some may write off Greene’s bold stance as controversial, it’s important to note that former President Donald Trump also criticized NATO members for consistently failing to meet their financial obligations. He was spot on, and it’s refreshing to see Greene continue to champion this cause. We must prioritize our resources and ensure that our tax dollars are being used to benefit American citizens, not to subsidize the defense of nations that refuse to pull their weight.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that President Biden will ever consider withdrawing from NATO, despite the economic and security concerns at play. We must continue to push for common-sense solutions that prioritize American interests and demand accountability from our elected officials. It’s time to put America first and ensure that our nation remains strong and secure.
