Greg Bovino’s surprise appearance at CPAC this week was more than a photo op — it was a homecoming for a career lawman who refused to cower while left-wing agitators tried to kneecap immigration enforcement. Fresh off a contentious final days at the agency, Bovino told the crowd he’d found a new “tribe” among patriots who still believe in borders and the rule of law.
Bovino has been unapologetic about protecting ICE and Border Patrol agents who do the dangerous work the politicians won’t. He’s repeatedly warned that heated, irresponsible rhetoric from Democrats and activist elites fuels the very violence they then condemn, and he’s demanded that conservatives stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the men and women on the front lines.
The message resonated because most Americans just want safe streets and accountable immigration, not chaos masquerading as compassion. Bovino has been clear: enforcement targets criminals, not lawful citizens, and the job of federal agents is to keep murderers and traffickers off our neighborhoods — a simple, moral mission that too many cities have lost sight of.
Meanwhile, the media and their political allies rushed to crucify officers after high-profile operations, creating a poisonous atmosphere where federal agents are harassed and sometimes physically attacked while carrying out court-authorized missions. That isn’t law enforcement, it’s intimidation, and conservatives should demand that local leaders stop enabling mobs and start protecting officers who enforce our laws.
If we are to remain the exceptional nation we claim to be, we must back a commonsense enforcement strategy that secures the border and defends the people who do the hard work of keeping us safe. CPAC’s embrace of Bovino was a reminder that the conservative movement still stands for order, for sovereignty, and for the simple dignity of those who serve; now it’s time to turn that resolve into votes, policy, and protection on the ground.
