It’s the most wonderful time of the year for car thieves, carjackers, and mass retail shopping thieves, but now it seems the Christmas tree thieves are coming out to steal the holiday spirit. In a heartless act, a couple in the San Francisco Bay area had their Christmas cheer stolen right off the roof of their SUV, just days after picking out their perfect tree to trim and decorate.
Seriously, who would dare to be the Grinch that steals a family’s newly purchased Christmas tree? The victims were just trying to run a quick errand when a dastardly tree thief struck, cutting the ropes securing the tree and loading it into their vehicle as if it were no big deal. The nerve!

To make matters worse, the suspect in this heinous Christmas caper didn’t even realize they had stolen from a man named Jesus! It’s a Christmas miracle that the tree lot reportedly replaced the stolen tree for Jesus with a new one, restoring a bit of holiday happiness in the midst of this festive felony.
But the theft of holiday trees isn’t limited to the San Francisco Bay area. In Salina, Kansas, a cheerful display of 42 Christmas trees with twinkling lights and festive ornaments on downtown sidewalks was marred by the theft of one of the trees, leaving the community shaken and authorities on the lookout for the Yuletide bandit.
And in Kennewick, Washington, police put a damper on a man’s attempt at a holly jolly Christmas when they found him running down the street in all black clothes with a stolen Christmas tree on his shoulders. This naughty list candidate had already racked up warrants for his arrest, making his holiday heist a lump of coal in his stocking.
It seems that even the joyous tradition of selecting and displaying a Christmas tree is not safe from the clutches of these seasonal scrooges. The war on Christmas takes on a new meaning as these despicable acts threaten to steal the joy and warmth of the holiday season from communities across the country. Let’s hope that law enforcement can deck the halls with justice and catch these Christmas tree thieves before they spoil the season for anyone else.
