The sheer scale of desperation within the Harris campaign and its allies is staggering, akin to a multi-million-dollar game of whack-a-mole. According to Open Secrets, the Democrats funneled over $2.185 billion into an attempt to thwart former President Donald Trump’s monumental comeback. This astounding figure reveals how far they are willing to go to ensure that Trump remains out of the presidential limelight, yet it raises the question: couldn’t they have invested that money into something that would actually help the American people?
Despite out-raising Trump during the campaign season, the Harris team appears to have discovered that cash alone doesn’t guarantee success at the ballot box. From January 2023 to mid-October 2024, Harris managed to rake in a staggering $997.2 million, while Trump’s campaign accumulated a mere $388 million. Such numbers suggest that while Harris may have more money, the effectiveness of that spending has been, quite frankly, a flop. Perhaps money can’t buy love, or in this case, votes—especially when the candidate is about as popular as a rainy day at a picnic.

The list of entities that contributed to the jaw-dropping expenditure reads like the who’s who of Democrat fundraising disasters. The Harris for President campaign itself coughed up $875 million, while supportive organizations like Future Forward and the DNC joined the fray to the tune of $621 million and $368 million, respectively. Talk about a burning hole in their collective pockets! This funding frenzy was so robust that it would make an average American’s head spin if they could even comprehend those numbers—which they can’t because the average American is too busy living life without the help of a billion-dollar campaign war chest.
In what must be the best example of guilt by association, this spending spree does not even include the lesser-known, yet still significant, amounts spent by other Democrat-aligned organizations. The Harris Victory Fund alone reaped over $1.2 billion in donations and was responsible for simultaneously funding both Harris’ campaign and a slew of Democratic initiatives. Apparently, the Harris camp figured that taking a page out of the corporate playbook for a Office Space-style expenditure report might somehow cover up their failure to connect with the electorate.
It’s no surprise that the Harris campaign raised $97.2 million in just the first half of October, dwarfing Trump’s $16.2 million during the same period. Yet, the same playbook played out again, leading to wasted funds and little return on investment as the clock ticked down to the election. As evidenced by the ongoing electoral season, money may talk, but it seems that in the case of Harris and her allies, it failed to convince the American people that their brand of leadership was worth voting for. The ongoing saga appears to establish one irrefutable truth: when it comes to spending, the Democrats have much to learn from Trump’s ability to turn the tide through sheer will—and a lot less cash.
