Hawley Exposes DC COVID Hypocrisy: Religious Shutdowns vs Unchecked BLM Protests

The hypocrisy and discrimination of the D.C. COVID restrictions have recently been exposed during a tough grilling of Biden’s nominee Loren AliKhan by Senator Josh Hawley. AliKhan had previously defended restrictions that were eventually struck down for being discriminatory, and Hawley made it clear that the hypocrisy behind them was unacceptable. While religious services were being shut down due to COVID precautions, massive Black Lives Matter protests were allowed to take place. The fact that these protests were in line with the government’s preferred narrative should not have protected them from the same restrictions that religious services were subjected to.

AliKhan attempted to defend herself by arguing that singing and shouting at BLM protests could transmit COVID at a higher rate than religious services, but she had no evidence to back this up. Hawley also understandably pointed out that this was not a fast-moving case, as AliKhan had claimed, and that there was ample time to gather the necessary evidence. It is clear that Biden’s nominees are consistently being grilled by members of Congress for their bad stances.

This double standard was seen throughout the country’s restrictions, as we have previously reported. Certain individuals, such as Mayor Bowser, seemed to be exempt from the strict COVID rules that were being applied to others. Members of Congress, as well as elites, were allowed to attend events such as Rep. John Lewis’ funeral without having to quarantine. Some individuals were more equal than others, and Biden seems to be content with accepting nominees who defend a discriminatory position. Thankfully, Hawley was willing to call out this hypocrisy and discrimination.
