The tragic news was conveyed by North Dakota Senate Majority Leader David Hogue via email on a somber Monday morning, identifying the victims as Senator Doug Larsen, his beloved wife Amy, and their two young children.
According to the reliable reports from KFGO, the ill-fated aircraft, a single-engine Piper plane, tragically met its fate shortly after departing from Canyonlands Airfield, located approximately 15 miles north of Moab. The Grand County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on Facebook, providing insights into the distressing incident. During their trip, they decided to make a brief stop in Utah to refuel their plane. It is truly disheartening that a routine part of their trip ended in such a devastating tragedy.
Senator Doug Larsen, a self-employed individual who had dedicated an impressive 28 years of his life to the North Dakota Army National Guard, had been faithfully representing District 34 (Mandan) in the North Dakota Senate since 2021. This untimely loss will undoubtedly leave a void in their community and the political arena.
