In a surprising turn of events, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has decided to suspend the right to carry guns in public for at least 30 days. Her reasoning? She claims she has the power to do so in the event of an emergency, and she’s labeling this a “public health order.” Now, hold up! You can’t just suspend the Constitution whenever you feel like it, especially for emergencies. If Democrats had their way, they would be manufacturing emergencies left and right to take away our rights. We saw this happen with COVID, and we can’t let it happen again.

Lujan Grisham is dangerously ignoring the Constitution and thinking she’s justified in taking away our rights, all while putting innocent people at risk in a supposed “out of control” climate. She even admitted that criminals likely wouldn’t follow this executive order, but she still thinks it’s a “strong message.” Yeah, a strong message that she’s more interested in limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens than going after criminals.

Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an emergency order temporarily suspending open and concealed carry laws in Albuquerque and throughout Bernalillo County for the next 30 days. I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of New Mexico violates the U.S. Constitution. No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution. https://t.co/kOhLMtaOl2

But what about law enforcement? When an official takes a stance against the Constitution like this, it’s up to them to stand up and say no. Unfortunately, that’s not happening. The head of the state police pretty much said they’ll be enforcing Lujan Grisham’s order, while the Bernalillo County Sheriff had some reservations but still expressed a commitment to working with her. Look, if you don’t flat-out say no to this unconstitutional order, you’re not fully upholding your oath.
It’s troubling that law enforcement isn’t taking a stronger stand on this issue. In fact, it’s so crazy that even Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu is calling out the tyranny and providing a voice of sanity. Hell may just be freezing over, folks, because Ted Lieu is actually right. It’s a simple statement that should be common sense, but apparently, Lujan Grisham and her supporters can’t grasp it.
